George F Hargitt
Born in Sterling, Scotland, George Fotherly Hargitt became a self-taught landscape painter who taught painting in England before immigrating to London, Ontario, Canada where he farmed in the summers and painted in the winters. In 1923, he and his wife moved to San Diego.
Exhibitor Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburg Scotland. Born Edingurgh Nov 11/1838 died Sept 15/1928. Had his first picture hung in the Royal Academy at the early age of 17 years. Also exhibited a various English, Scotch and American Fine Arts Galleries and Academies. He was a fellow pupil of Sir John McWhirter, Horatio McCulloch , W.Q. Richardson and others.
